| Physical Requirements | Requires heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects over 30 pounds; animal handling (including carcasses); risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; exposure to temperature extremes, cuts/punctures, and bloodborne/airborne pathogens. Able to work in hot, wet areas and wear personal protective clothing. |

| Job Summary | The Animal Care Supervisor I oversees daily animal husbandry and/or cage wash operations within assigned research facilities, supervising animal care staff and ensuring adequate operational coverage across all shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed. This position monitors and verifies that all animal care and facility tasks are completed accurately, on time, and in accordance with institutional policies and standard operating procedures. The supervisor ensures compliance with all university, local, state, and federal regulations governing the humane care and use of research animals. Responsibilities include monitoring staff performance, coordinating work assignments, ensuring proper operation and maintenance of equipment, managing incoming animal activities, and maintaining accurate documentation related to animal census, billing, and operational records. This role works closely with investigators and research staff to support research activities, provide technical guidance, and ensure high standards of animal care and customer service. The Animal Care Supervisor I also assists with administrative functions including staff scheduling, performance management, training, and responding to facility alarms or operational issues when management is unavailable. Participation in weekend, holiday, after-hours, and on-call rotations is required. |

| Preferred Education/Experience | Bachelors degree in a relevant field (Animal Sciences, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Zoology, etc. or it's equivalent) plus a minimum of 10 years animal husbandry or laboratory animal husbandry preferred. Animal related experience directly related to the care, use, handling and treatment of animals in a paid position (i.e, work in pet stores, veterinary clinics, farm or ranch) preferred. AALAS certified LATg or CMAR preferred. Driver's license preferred. |
