- Bulk Truck Driver
Description
Load, operate and drive an explosives Bulk Truck used for blasting rock at various rock quarries across the state of Wisconsin.
Start the morning at the Ahlgrimm Explosives shop in Hortonville. After performing a pre-trip inspection, the Bulk Truck Driver, with assistance of a Blaster Helper, will load the bulk trucks with the proper amount and type of explosive products required for the scheduled blast. Tasks such as loading the bulk tank full of emulsion, filling the on road diesel tank, and filling smaller chemical tanks attached to the truck are completed the previous day.
The Bulk Truck Driver will then fill out the shipping paper and route plan.
The Bulk Truck Driver will then drive to the quarry where holes in a designed pattern have been previously drilled and perform the following tasks under the direction of the Blaster in Charge:
Place required amount of detonators and boosters next to each hole
Prime the booster with the detonator and lower down each hole
Reel out the hose
Set each chemical pump and emulsion pump to the desired rate for proper mixing of products
Operate the pumps during the hole loading process
Take samples of the product to ensure quality control and document information gathered from the samples
Properly shut down bulk pumping operations after all holes have been loaded
On the shipping paper, record all explosive products and bulk products used on the blast site
Help Block all access points into the blast zone during the detonation of the shot
Signal air horn warnings prior to the blast initiation
After all the blasts have been completed for the day, the Bulk Truck Driver will drive back and help reload the bulk trucks with fuel and bulk products used for the following day. Any remaining explosive products not used during the blast will be placed back into the proper storage facility.
The driver will then complete the post-trip inspection and re-stock the truck with any tools or items needed for the following day.
