Description
The Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is seeking a burn surgeon to serve as Medical Director. Located in Baltimore, MD, the burn center is ABA-verified, Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System (MIEMSS)-designated and the only adult burn center in the state of Maryland. The Medical Director will hold a faculty appointment at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership across the full continuum of burn care. This includes acute resuscitation, operative management, critical care management, rehabilitation, and outpatient follow-up. In partnership with interdisciplinary teams and hospital leadership, the Medical Director will lead quality improvement efforts and advance the center’s research and education programs. The role also includes supporting trainee development and promoting burn prevention, advocacy, and community outreach at the local, regional, and national levels. Qualified candidates must be board certified in General Surgery or Plastic Surgery, have completed an ACGME-accredited burn fellowship or have equivalent experience, and hold ABLS certification.
The Johns Hopkins Burn Center, located at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, is a nationally recognized leader in complex burn and reconstructive surgery. Verified by the American Burn Association, our center delivers high-acuity, multidisciplinary care across the full continuum—from emergent resuscitation and critical care to definitive surgical management, reconstruction, and long-term recovery. Annually, the Burn Center manages a high-volume, complex patient population, including over 700 patients across inpatient, emergency, and observation settings, as well as thousands of outpatient encounters through dedicated Burn and Wound Clinics. The facility includes a 10-bed Burn ICU, 23-bed step-down unit, dedicated operating room, and specialized rehabilitation gym, enabling integrated, high-acuity care delivery.
Burn surgeons at our center practice at the forefront of the specialty, managing complex operative cases including acute burn excision and grafting, and post-burn reconstruction. Surgeons work in a highly collaborative environment alongside dedicated intensivists, advanced practice providers, therapists, and specialized nursing staff, ensuring seamless, patient-centered care.
