Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in science and engineering on behalf of national security. As the nation’s premier plutonium center of excellence, LANL supports critical missions spanning nuclear security, space exploration, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing. The Pit Technologies (PT) Division within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) delivers high-quality plutonium pit-related products and services, supporting the safety, reliability, and performance of the U.S. nuclear stockpile. We are seeking a Manufacturing Manager 3 to provide leadership within the PT-2 Machining Group, overseeing precision machining operations in a high-tech nuclear manufacturing environment. This position is a regular, onsite role in Los Alamos, NM with a salary range of $141,500 – $238,300.
You Will:
- Provide first-line leadership for precision machining operations, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient production in a nuclear manufacturing environment
- Oversee CNC machining activities, resource allocation, and daily operations while driving process improvements and operational excellence
- Plan, coordinate, and track work execution, including scope development, scheduling, and performance reporting
- Ensure compliance with conduct of operations, safety, quality, and engineering standards in a high-hazard facility
- Mentor and develop staff, including early-career employees, while fostering a high-performing, collaborative team environment
- Interpret technical requirements, manage complex operational challenges, and maintain accurate documentation using digital systems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 8+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proven leadership experience supervising teams, resolving conflicts, mentoring staff, and building high-performing teams
- Experience planning, coordinating, and executing work in a machining or manufacturing environment, including tracking and reporting progress
- Knowledge of nuclear facility requirements, including conduct of operations, engineering, and maintenance standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across all organizational levels
- Ability to meet DOE Order 426.2A requirements
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with classified, confidential, or sensitive information
- Background in project/program management, work package development, and resource planning
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams of technicians, engineers, and professional staff
- Knowledge of Integrated Work Management (IWM) and Integrated Safety and Security Management (ISSM)
- Experience in high-hazard nuclear facility operations, safety authorization basis, and Conduct of Operations
- Familiarity with complex operational environments and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
