Description
Zipline International Inc. has multiple openings in South San Francisco, CA for a Mechanical Engineer.
DUTIES: Develop innovative products for our ground systems and/or drone flight systems equipment. Own the design of entire systems and subassemblies for next generation products that are unlike anything that exists today. Design of structural components, mechanisms, and electronics integration. Make important decisions about the product architecture and create designs that will enable practical scale on a short timeline that will meet high product reliability targets. Iterate and down select based on data from analysis and test results from prototypes. Collaborate cross functionally with electrical, software, civil, NPI and supply chain teams to bring designs to production and into the field.
Travel is required; 5% domestic travel is required to audit local prototype suppliers, and 5% international travel is required to bring up tooling and assembly for mass production of completed designs. May work at various unanticipated locations throughout U.S.
Minimum requirements for entry into the position: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related field, and at least 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer or related occupation. Position requires:
1. Design for Assembly.
2. Failure Analysis, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, quality control;
3. Design of parts for plastic injection molding, sheet metal stamping and forming, or welded assemblies;
4. Working on complex subassemblies or full systems over at least 3 product programs (concept, prototype, validation, production);
5. Load estimation, structural hand calcs to guide part sizing, basic FEA and CAD designs;
6. Mechanism design and the integration of electrical components into hardware products;
7. Knowledge of manufacturing methods, such as welding, sheet metal forming, extrusion, CNC machining, or injection molding;
8. Partnering with suppliers to ramp up production of high-volume lines; and
9. CAD for system level ownership such as 3D/2D of 20-40 parts simultaneously.
The salary range for this position is $175,000 -$200,000 Per Year
