The Program Supervisor is responsible for creating, planning and implementing large-scale special events, and after school and summer recreational programs.
What Winning As A Program Supervisor Looks Like:
- Supervise Program Coordinator, and assist with oversight of their related programs, special events and budget.
- Plan and implement a variety of large-scale Derby Recreation Commission special events and programs to include holiday programs, fall festivals, camp outs, youth/adults day programs, etc.
- Partner with other city businesses and organizations to help implement other city wide events.
- Represent the Derby Recreation Commission at other special events.
- Research, develop and implement new events for the community of Derby of all ages.
- Manage volunteers used for implementation of special events.
- Manage and start business relationships with a variety of vendors including food vendors, equipment rental agencies, special services, bands, disc jockeys, and other special event-related service providers; seeks quotes and bids for a variety of services.
- Operate Derby Recreation Commission vehicles and other related equipment for special event production.
- Plan, develop, promote, administer, supervise and evaluate youth and teen recreation programs.
- Responsible for all aspects of Recreation Station youth summer camp including but not limited to hiring, supervision and coordination of staff, planning and overseeing activities, upkeep of equipment, and obtaining and maintaining health department licensing and compliance with all applicable local and state regulations.
- Obtain and maintain KDHE Program Director credentials, including 16 hours of approved continuing education training annually.
- Responsible for training and supervision of youth recreation staff and instructors.
- Coordinate/assist with Special Populations programs in cooperation with Kansas Special Olympics, Challenge Games and USD 260.
- Develop accurate and timely material as outlined in the Program Guide process. Work with Supervisors and Marketing Director in planning and implementing various marketing strategies.
- Keep adequate records pertaining to attendance, budget, registration fees, etc.
- Prepare annual budget, capital improvement and equipment needs for youth and teens recreation.
- Promote teen and youth programs to the community through oral presentations and written communication.
- Complete reports and create and give presentations, as required.
- Perform all related work as required by supervisors.
Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field preferred
EXPERIENCE:
2 years minimum experience in the field of recreation. Experience with special events, summer and day camps and working with special populations or high risk youths is beneficial.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Need to have the ability to see, hear and move about. Must posses an audible voice for communication and ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds and an ability to administer First aid and CPR.
Qualifications:
Strong organization and people skills required, along with creativity. General knowledge of special event coordination, management and implementation. Should possess good supervisory/managerial skills as well as teaching, oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with all levels of general public, administration, city leaders and community organizations. Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects concurrently. Ability to appropriately manage the physical demands of the position. Ability to work the high demand of nights and weekends this job entails. Ability to pass a KBI criminal background check. Must be 18 and possess a valid driver’s license. Must maintain certifications in CPR and first aid. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
