- Public Works Maintenance Worker
Description
Under the supervision of the Public Works Director or higher classified employee, performs a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled daily maintenance duties in all areas that are the responsibility of the Public Works Department, including but not limited to: water distribution and sewer collection systems, streets, sidewalks, pathways, cemetery, parks, grounds, buildings, and equipment maintenance. In addition, operates a variety of hand and power tools, vehicles and equipment to perform duties. Work requires physical strength and effort in the relatively routine and more complex maintenance and construction activities.
Requirements
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
High school diploma or the equivalent.
Previous experience in public works or public utilities or a related field preferred.
State of Michigan Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with air brake endorsement preferred.
State of Michigan water certificate S-4 or higher preferred.
The ability to obtain the State of Michigan S-4 certification within one year and remain certified throughout employment.
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Ability to communicate and effectively follow directions.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primarily outdoor, field-based work at various public works sites.
Exposure to uneven terrain, confined spaces, dust, fumes, chemicals, noise, and construction hazards.
Requires heavy physical labor, including lifting, climbing, bending, and operating equipment.
Work performed in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
Evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency on-call work may be required.
