Responsibilities
The SUE Field Technician supports Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) projects by designating, locating, and documenting underground utilities in both rural and urban environments. This role involves using advanced geophysical and survey equipment, vacuum excavation, and field data collection to ensure accurate and high-quality utility mapping.Key ResponsibilitiesDesignate all types of utilities using surface geophysical equipment and vacuum excavation methods to expose and document existing utilitiesSelect and apply appropriate geophysical equipment and accessories to accurately identify and map complex underground utility systems for 2D QL-B (2DB) and 3D QL-B (3DB) projectsCollect, interpret, and record data for vault diagram forms, utility pole inventories, and overhead utility mappingEmploy VRS and GPR survey equipment to collect horizontal data for QL-B mapping and QL-A test holesPerform level loops using automatic or digital levels to collect QL-A elevation data from exposed utilitiesImplement and maintain approved traffic control plans for all field operations conducted outside of travel lanesCoordinate with internal survey crews to ensure accurate data integration and project consistencyObtain and maintain all required safety certifications and follow company safety protocolsTravel as needed to support project schedules and field operations
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Working knowledge of ASCE 38 guidelines and associated quality levels
- Basic comprehension and interpretation of planimetric and design plans, profiles and cross sections, utility records, etc. (1-2) years of SUE field experience preferredSurvey experience preferredMilitary experience is a plus
