Description
This position will remain open until filled. Applications will be reviewed and considered as they are received. An essential function of this position is the ability to work in person and physically report for work on site.
Job Summary:
This position works collaboratively with Division personnel, supervisors, school administrators, teachers, and the Student Learning Department to oversee science education programs that foster individual student achievement and continuous instructional improvement through best practices identified through research and data analysis. This position is under the direction of the Director of Student Learning.
Essential Responsibilities Specific to this Job:
- Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and monitoring of the science education curriculum
- Collaborates with other professionals to design and implement professional development opportunities for science education
- Works with Risk, Safety, and Environmental Department and Science Instructional Safety Liaisons to to develop, implement, and monitor safety protocols for instructional activities in lab settings
- Plans, implements and monitors the science education program budget
- Supervises, monitors, and implements state and Division initiatives and requirements concerning all aspects of the science education programs
- Supports science specialty, IB, Cambridge, AP, and Dual Language Immersion programs
- Communicates with administrators and other professional staff members concerning all aspects of the science education program
- Communicates with parents and community members concerning all aspects of the science education program
- Collaborates with the Supervisor of Computer Science and STEM to coordinate any overlap areas
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and effective practices related to curriculum and instruction in science education
- Maintains liaisons with community colleges and universities to provide a complete and sequential instructional program and Dual Enrollment courses for Prince William County Public Schools students
- Serves as a liaison with state and federal initiatives related to curriculum and instruction in assigned areas
- Monitors compliance with local, state, and federal laws and with all educational standards
- Prepares, analyzes, and submits reports, studies, correspondence, and other appropriate documents as required
- Assists administrators with teacher observation and evaluation
- Supervises and evaluates personnel
- Facilitates the review and recommendation of science education curriculum resources and textbooks
- Provides oversight to the Nature Bridge program
- Collaborates with school leaders to support the Division-wide instructional programming made possible through the observatory at Forest Park High School
- Provides oversight to student independent research and supports local and regional science and engineering fairs and other competitive events
- Provides support for the Regional Science and Engineering Fair for Prince William County Public Schools, City of Manassas Public Schools, Manassas Park Public Schools, and participating private and parochial schools
Requirements
Must hold or immediately eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional Educator License with an endorsement in Administration/Supervision.

- Demonstrated leadership in the field of science
- Excellent leadership, management, communication, interpersonal, and project management skills
- Extensive knowledge and experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation
- Extensive involvement beyond the School Division in professional learning and leadership opportunities in science
- Conceptual understanding of both educational research and current literature on effective science education programs and instruction
- Skills in data-based decision making
- Skills in budget development and management
- Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and meet deadlines
