Full Time, Hybrid, Reports to Fremont NH as needed approximately 1 day per week
Position Summary
We are seeking a full-time Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, documentation, integration, manufacturing support, and long-term product development of the electrical systems for autonomous aerostat platforms.
This role works closely with a Principal Engineer who owns the overall electrical architecture and system-level integration. The Senior Electrical Engineer will contribute broadly across electrical system design and documentation, including schematic capture, wiring documentation, interface drawings, and controlled design packages in AutoCAD Electrical.
Over time, this role will take increasing responsibility for major power-distribution and related subsystem work, including support for higher-voltage DC applications within the platform. This role will also support manufacturing builds, field operations, troubleshooting, and ongoing product improvement based on test and operational feedback.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who is comfortable moving between system design, detailed electrical documentation, integration, implementation support, manufacturing issue resolution, and field troubleshooting. The ideal candidate brings practical experience in electrical power systems, DC power distribution, power electronics, industrial electrical design, mobile electrical systems, or similar applied electrical hardware development, along with strong documentation discipline and product support capability.
Altaeros prides itself on its excellent culture and work life balance, and offers unlimited PTO, medical, dental and vision insurance, 401k plan, as well as life and disability insurance.
Requirements
Support the design and ongoing development of the electrical systems for autonomous aerostat platforms
Work closely with the Principal Engineer to implement system architecture into detailed electrical designs and controlled documentation
Lead detailed electrical design and day-to-day coordination with mechanical engineering to translate electrical requirements, component selections, wiring needs, and layout constraints into a buildable, maintainable, and robust cabinet design.
Create, update, and maintain:
electrical schematics
wiring diagrams
interconnect documentation
panel/interface drawings
cable and harness documentation
drawing revisions and released design packages in AutoCAD Electrical
Support development of electrical power-distribution subsystems and related interfaces
Assist with design implementation for:
Power distribution
protection and fault isolation
precharge and discharge circuits
contactor and relay strategy
sensing and monitoring subsystem electrical interfaces
Define and document interfaces between power hardware, controls, sensors, payload systems, and supporting equipment
Work with controls and software engineers on interlocks, telemetry, status signals, and safe-state behavior
Support lab bring-up, integration, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis
Support manufacturing builds and field operations with, issue resolutions, design clarification, corrective actions and electrical documentation updates based on feedback
Help improve manufacturability, maintainability, serviceability, and reliability over time
Contribute to design reviews, verification planning, and ongoing design improvement as the platform matures
Support long-term subsystem ownership and documentation maintenance throughout the product lifecycle
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with 1-5 kV DC power-distribution design considerations
Experience with systems in the 2 kW to 20 kW range
Experience with long-cable, tethered, or remote power-delivery systems
Experience in aerospace, defense, UAV, marine, industrial mobile, energy, or other harsh-environment systems
Experience with grounding/bonding, connector and termination design, and fielded electrical hardwareExperience with EMI/EMC mitigation in switched power systems
Experience supporting abnormal-condition testing, subsystem integration, and field troubleshooting
Role Fit
This role is best suited for a hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer who can contribute broadly across electrical system design and documentation while also supporting the realities of build, test, manufacturing, and fielded operation.
The successful candidate will not be expected to own the full aerostat electrical architecture. That responsibility remains with the Principal Engineer. This role is intended for a strong implementation-focused engineer who can help turn system architecture into practical, buildable, supportable electrical hardware and then help improve that hardware over time through manufacturing and field feedback.
What Success Looks Like
Producing clear, accurate, build-ready electrical documentation Helping convert system architecture into practical, testable hardware designs Supporting steady progress in subsystem development, integration, manufacturing, and troubleshooting Resolving build and field issues efficiently and feeding those lessons back into the design Strengthening the quality, manufacturability, and maturity of power-system implementation over time Becoming a trusted owner of major electrical design packages and selected power subsystems Supporting the electrical system throughout development, production support, test, and ongoing product evolution
Safety, Standards, and Compliance
Familiarity with electrical safety practices for development, integration, and test of higher-energy electrical systems Experience working within structured engineering processes that consider applicable standards, safe work practices, and verification requirements
