General Description:
Corporate accounting position responsible for managing grain margin accounting, including gross profit analysis for grain divisions. Oversee senior and staff analysts and accountants handling grain accounting. Specific Job Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate monthly gross profit analysis for trade divisions Responsible for timely and accurate reporting of gross margin. Review work performed by accounting staff. Streamline and standardize month end processes, including developing tools and training for basis analysis. 2. Operations support Act as a “super user,” or oversee “super user(s)” to insure users have proper training, understand system procedures, and are able to successfully complete trading, logistics and accounting functions in grain accounting systems. Provide insight into developing system features and functions to support accurate financial reporting and basis analysis. Assist in rolling out systems to any new locations. Determine procedures, in coordination with accounting policies, for consistent treatment of grain accounting related matters, and disseminate to accounting and business teams. Effectively communicate with merchandisers and execution staff to ensure reporting needs are met and to promote relationships. Assist Risk Management team as needed as new markets or products arise. 3. Support accounting staff at joint ventures Provide guidance for mark-to-market and basis analysis techniques. Respond to accounting questions posed by joint ventures and help with training, audit coordination, and communication with joint venture management as needed. 4. Supervise staff Develop talent in basis analysis through training, procedures, systems and mentoring. Delegate operations support and projects to staff, as applicable. Work with GM Accounting to determine proper staffing needs. Performance evaluations for staff. 5. Special projects will be regularly assigned by the GM Accounting or Chief Accounting Officer. These projects will be given a priority level based on timing and importance and may take precedence over routine job functions.
Requirements
Essential Job Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
4 year degree in accounting 5-10 years accounting experience Excellent understanding of basis/gross profit analysis for grain commodities Ability to work in deadline driven environment while maintaining accuracy Flexibility in managing multiple projects Exceptional communication skills Proficient in Excel Typical Work Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment. Employee routinely interacts with other staff members and outside service providers face to face, by telephone and by email throughout the day. Interactions must be cordial and cooperative. There is occasional lifting of boxes containing files, sending samples, or lifting ream(s) of paper for printing or copying. Timing around quarter and year end is especially critical. Employee will be required to work extra hours, including weekends and potentially holidays, at quarter and year end. Comp time can be taken later for holidays worked. The month end activities are a concentrated time commitment of the first seven working days of each month. Personal time off or work travel plans are restricted to ensure accuracy and efficiency with the overall close and analysis process. From time to time, travel may be required for this position.
