The National Law Review and Wickard are pleased to launch the NLR-Wickard Legal AI Pathways Fellowship, an 8-week summer fellowship designed to support students and emerging professionals interested in the rapidly developing intersection of artificial intelligence, law, legal technology, journalism, and innovation.
The fellowship is intended to help develop the next generation of scholars, writers, and practitioners working at the intersection of AI and the law. It is designed to provide substantive, educational, and résumé-building experience for individuals who want to deepen their knowledge of AI and the legal profession while contributing meaningful work product to a nationally recognized legal publication and legal AI organization.
Fellows will work under the leadership of Gary Chodes, CEO of The National Law Review, and Oliver Roberts, Editor-in-Chief of AI & the Law at The National Law Review and Founder of Wickard. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage directly with emerging issues in AI regulation, legal technology, courts and AI, AI governance, and major developments affecting the legal profession and legal industry.
Fellowship Responsibilities
Fellows may be asked to assist with:
Researching emerging issues in artificial intelligence, legal technology, AI governance, courts and AI, and innovation in legal practice
Assisting with reporting and analysis on cutting-edge developments in AI and the legal profession
Writing articles for publication in The National Law Review, including both news-style coverage and analytical pieces
Writing on topics proposed by the fellow or on news and developments assigned as priorities by NLR
Reviewing and editing submissions from prospective authors
Reviewing and editing newsletters
Working directly with NLR and Wickard leadership to develop publishable legal and industry analysis

Requirements
Eligibility
This program is open to:
Current 1L, 2L, or 3L law students
Rising 1Ls
Undergraduate students (rising juniors and above)
Graduate students
Applicants in fields such as law, journalism, artificial intelligence, technology, information technology, public policy, communications, or related disciplines
Time Commitment and Program Structure
The fellowship will run from June 1, 2026 through July 27, 2026. Fellows should expect to contribute approximately 5 hours per week during the program.
This structure is intended to make the fellowship accessible to participants who may also be working, studying, or engaged in other summer opportunities. The program is designed to be flexible while still requiring consistent engagement and timely completion of assignments.

Resume: The resume must include the applicant’s GPA and, if applicable, class rank. Applications who do not include GPA and, where applicable, class rank will not be considered.
Statement of Interest: The statement of interest should briefly explain the applicant’s background, interest in AI and the law or related fields, and why the applicant wishes to participate in the fellowship.
Writing Sample: The writing sample may be legal, journalistic, academic, policy- oriented, or otherwise demonstrative of the applicant’s analytical and writing abilities.
