- Appellate Attorney
Description
Scott J. Edwards, P.A. is a boutique appellate law firm in Boca Raton, Florida. We represent clients in all of Florida’s appellate courts, and in Federal courts. We are growing, and looking for an exceptional attorney to join our practice: someone who loves the craft of appellate writing, thrives on complex legal argument, and is ready to do the most interesting work in Florida civil litigation. We are a firm where the work is intellectually serious, the clients are fellow professionals who respect the process, and the schedule offers the kind of flexibility that most law firm associates only dream about.
We are a small firm doing significant work. If you want to spend your career writing at a high level on complex cases, learning from an attorney who has devoted his practice entirely to appellate advocacy, and building something genuinely excellent, we want to hear from you.
The Role
This is a substantive associate position with real responsibility from day one. You will work directly with Scott Edwards on a full docket of civil appeals, with the opportunity to own matters, develop your own legal voice, and grow into a senior role as the firm expands.
Your responsibilities
- Draft and refine appellate briefs across a range of civil practice areas
- Research legal issues, analyze trial records, and develop case strategy in close collaboration with the firm’s principal
- Draft motions, petitions, and supporting memoranda for Florida district courts of appeal and federal courts
- Attend and participate in oral arguments
- Support referring trial attorneys with appellate strategy and litigation support
- Develop your own professional relationships within the South Florida legal community
The Ideal Candidate
- Appellate court clerkship experience — Florida state or federal court strongly preferred
- Exceptional legal research and writing skills; writing samples required
- Deep comfort with Florida civil procedure and appellate practice
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and take ownership of your caseload and work product
- Genuine love of legal argument and the written word
- Florida Bar admission in good standing
