Weld County Government in Greeley, CO is recruiting for an Assistant County Attorney to join our team!
This position offers meaningful professional development and the chance to expand responsibilities over time. As the attorney becomes familiar with Weld County's structure, departments, and legal needs, opportunities may include providing legal counsel to County departments, elected officials, and boards and participating in broader civil practice areas.Under the direction and supervision of the County Attorney, the Assistant County Attorney provides legal representation for Weld County in civil and regulatory matters. This role is well suited for attorneys seeking consistent courtroom exposure, predictable dockets, and an opportunity to build a broad civil practice in a supportive, collaborative environment. Primary responsibilities include managing several established court dockets—specifically mental health proceedings, zoning and land use violation matters, and dog at large cases—as well as assisting with Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) responses and document review.
Requirements
Required Education
Graduation from an ABA accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D. or equivalent).
Experience Qualifications
Experience practicing law, such as internships, clerkships, clinics, or professional work involving civil matters or government settings as a minimum requirement.
Preferred Experience
One to three years of experience practicing civil law or representing government agencies.
Experience in litigation, administrative hearings, mediation, or dispute resolution.
Experience reviewing documents or handling CORA or other public records processes.
Skills and Abilities
Candidate must possess strong legal research and writing skills.
Candidate must possess sufficient computer skills to perform essential job functions.
Candidate must possess the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with the client, fellow employees and colleagues, opposing counsel, and the court.
Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.
Licenses and Certifications
Passed the Colorado State Bar Exam and able to practice law in Weld County.
Admission to the Colorado State Bar and member in good standing.
Driving is essential in this position.
Candidate must have a valid Driver’s License and Liability Insurance Upon Hire Required
Candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) evaluation and if hired, will be subject to continuous monthly MVR monitoring and random drug screens throughout employment. Required
Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.
This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening in accordance with Weld County policy.
Candidate must pass a Background Check.
