Description
Established criminal defense firm based in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking an Associate Attorney to handle criminal matters throughout the state of Alabama. This is a full-time position with a focus on representing clients in a wide range of criminal cases at the municipal, district, and circuit court levels.
The ideal candidate will have solid courtroom experience and be comfortable managing an active caseload. Candidates with 2–5 years of litigation experience are encouraged to apply. Experience with jury trials or more complex felony cases is a strong plus but not required.
This position offers significant hands-on litigation experience within a fast-paced, team-oriented practice, with opportunities to grow into more advanced case work and trial responsibilities. This position requires frequent travel throughout the state of Alabama with occasional overnight stays.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in criminal matters across multiple jurisdictions in Alabama
- Assist in and/or lead hearings, trials, and more complex felony cases as experience allows
- Work collaboratively with attorneys and staff on case strategy and preparation
- Maintain organized case files and manage deadlines effectively
- Communicate with clients regarding case status and expectations
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active member in good standing with the Alabama State Bar
- Prior litigation experience (criminal defense preferred)
- Comfortable appearing in court handling hearings independently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2–5 years of litigation experience
- Jury trial experience
- Experience handling felony-level criminal cases
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred), though not required
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience.
