- Criminal Defense Attorney
Description
We are seeking a sharp, motivated associate attorney with 2–5 years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with criminal law (prosecution or defense), experience trying cases, and a working knowledge of state and federal firearms laws and regulations. You will carry your own workload, collaborate and work closely with firm leadership, and play an active role in shaping how we serve our clients.
Requirements
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage a diverse caseload of criminal defense matters, including felony and misdemeanor cases in state and federal courts
Draft and argue motions, including motions to suppress, motions to dismiss, and other pre-trial filings
Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, briefs, and correspondence
Represent clients in court hearings, trials, plea proceedings, and bond hearings
Conduct client intake, case evaluations, and maintain regular client communication
Maintain availability for emergency client matters, including after-hours calls
Collaborate with supervising attorneys on case strategy and complex legal issues
Advise clients on Texas and federal firearm laws, including charges related to unlawful possession, carry violations, NFA compliance, firearm trusts, and restoration of rights
Develop and create educational materials on criminal defense topics and firearms law for clients, community outreach, and firm marketing purposes
Represent the firm by speaking at community events, legal seminars, bar association meetings, and other public forums on relevant legal topics
Stay current on changes in criminal law, Second Amendment jurisprudence, and relevant firearms regulations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Working knowledge of Texas and federal firearms laws (e.g., Texas Penal Code Ch. 46, GCA, NFA, ATF regulations)
Experience handling firearms-related criminal charges or advising on State and FFL/NFA matters
Familiarity with Harris County and surrounding county court systems and procedures
Established professional network in the Houston legal community
Working knowledge of Texas and federal firearms laws (e.g., Texas Penal Code Ch. 46, GCA, NFA, ATF regulations)
COMPENSATION
Salary is commensurate with experience. Frequent bonuses on top of salary are available.
