Description
Role Summary:
Seagate Space is a ventured capital-backed startup delivering next-generation maritime infrastructure for the space industry. Our Gateway series is the first-ever ABS approved (AIP) offshore platform designed to deliver the precision stability and motion control required for dynamic launch operations at sea. Based at spARK Labs in St. Petersburg (Florida), joining Seagate Space will put you at the center of two sectors: the dynamic expanse of space and the reemergence of maritime innovation.
We are seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer with 3–5 years of industry experience to support the design, integration, and validation of complex electrical and automation systems. This role spans low- and medium-voltage distribution, power management, PLC/automation integration, telemetry, instrumentation, modular equipment outfitting, and electrical documentation for maritime and spaceport infrastructure.
You will collaborate with naval architecture, mechanical, structural, controls, and marine system teams to bring mission-critical electrical systems from concept through deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Power & Distribution Systems
Design one-line diagrams, power distribution layouts, grounding plans, and load analyses for platform electrical systems.
Design and integrate low- and medium-voltage systems for motors, pumps, winches, DP support systems, control cabinets, and modular container units.
Develop cable routing, cable sizing, equipment integration specifications, and EMI/shielding considerations.
Contribute to power quality analysis, redundancy strategies, and reliability planning.
Platform Automation & Remote Operations
Integrate PLCs, sensors, actuators, and remote-operation interfaces with platform automation systems.
Design automation architecture for hydraulics, machinery control, environmental monitoring, and platform support systems.
Develop PLC ladder logic or structured text routines supporting remote operation modes and safe state transitions.
Integrate automation systems with remote operator consoles, OSV control interfaces, and communication links.
Specify instrumentation for hydraulic, mechanical, environmental, and platform-monitoring systems.
Assist with testing and commissioning of automation and control systems.
Telemetry, Sensor Integration & Data Systems
Specify, integrate, and test sensors for vibration, load, hydraulic pressure, GNSS, platform attitude, thermal conditions, and machinery health.
Develop telemetry pipelines to capture, timestamp, transmit, and visualize real-time platform data.
Support creation of I/O lists, sensor calibration procedures, and health-monitoring dashboards.
Maintain redundant communication paths between the platform and OSV/onshore control nodes.
Design Documentation & Compliance
Generate electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable lists, and installation details for contract documentation.
Support electrical equipment selection and procurement such as switchgear, transformers, MCCs, communication equipment, and sensors.
Contribute to regulatory compliance packages (ABS, USCG, NEC, IEC/IEEE), hazard analysis, and safety documentation.
Participate in design reviews and maintain revision-controlled engineering documentation.
System Commissioning
Support bench testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), integration testing, and remote-operation commissioning (HATs and SATs).
Troubleshoot electrical, control, instrumentation, and telemetry issues during development and deployment.
Support remote-monitoring and diagnostic system development.
Coordinate with field engineers during installation and validation stages.
Compensation:
This role offers a balanced compensation package that includes both a competitive salary and meaningful stock-based equity. While salaries reflect the dynamics of an early-stage startup, our equity grants provide significant long-term upside and align your success with the company’s growth. We aim to ensure that total compensation is competitive in aggregate, rewarding both immediate contributions and long-term impact.
Salary: Competitive, market-aligned compensation (commensurate with experience).
Equity: Participation in Seagate's equity program.
Unlimited PTO — Flexible vacation, illness, or personal time.
QSEHRA Health Reimbursement — Monthly tax-free health allowance.
Biweekly payroll with performance-based bonuses.
Our Core Values:
To fulfill our mission, Seagate Space must develop a DNA that is distinct from incumbents in the maritime industry – one that focuses on agility, innovation, and collaboration.
These 5 Principles guide our ways of working from day one and onwards as we evolve.
1. Move at the Speed of Our Customers – Stay nimble and avoid bureaucracy to match the pace of the space industry.
2. Make No Small Plans – Focus on bold, transformative developments over incremental improvements.
3. Collaboration Wins the Day – Seek win–win partnerships; going solo is a last resort.
4. Rules are Meant to Be Rewritten – Challenge norms to drive innovation.
5. Ask More, Say More – Encourage open, inquisitive dialogue to advance collective knowledge.
