- Experienced Litigation Attorney Family Law
Description
Maryland & Washington, D.C.
THIS POSITION IS FOR AN ATTORNEY WITH LITIGATION EXPERIENCE.
Strickler, Platnick & Hatfield, P.C. — The Modern Family Law Firm — is seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join our boutique family-law practice serving clients throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C.
We are looking for an attorney with at least 2 years of meaningful post-law-school litigation experience who is ready to take on an active caseload with significant responsibility.
Why Family Law?
Family law is litigation. The cases involve contested hearings, discovery, depositions, expert and financial evidence, negotiations, motion practice, evidentiary issues, witness preparation, and trials — often with extremely high stakes for our clients.
Family-law experience is preferred, but it is not required.
We believe a litigator can learn the substantive and procedural aspects of Maryland and Washington, DC family law. What is much harder to teach is the ability to think strategically about a contested case, prepare for court, examine a witness, negotiate effectively, manage opposing counsel, and advocate persuasively for a client.
If you are an experienced civil, criminal, commercial, employment, personal-injury, insurance, or other litigator who is interested in becoming a family-law practitioner, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
You will take meaningful responsibility for cases and clients, including:
- Managing an active family-law litigation caseload;
- Developing case strategy and advising clients;
- Drafting and arguing motions, pleadings, memoranda, and other litigation documents;
- Conducting and responding to discovery;
- Analyzing financial, business, and evidentiary records;
- Negotiating settlements and participating in mediation;
- Taking and defending depositions;
- Preparing witnesses and evidence for contested proceedings;
- Appearing at hearings, settlement conferences, and trials;
- Communicating directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and the courts; and
- Working collaboratively with other attorneys and professionals within the firm.
What We Offer
At Strickler, Platnick & Hatfield, attorneys are not just assigned files and left to figure things out. We believe in mentorship, collaboration, and professional development, while also providing meaningful autonomy and courtroom experience.
You can expect:
- Courtroom and litigation experience;
- Mediation experience;
- Direct mentorship on Maryland and Washington, DC family-law strategy and procedure;
- Meaningful client responsibility;
- A collaborative and collegial working environment;
- Professional development and long-term growth opportunities;
- Competitive compensation and bonus opportunities;
- Health and retirement benefits;
- Hybrid work flexibility; and
- The opportunity to build a long-term career with a respected boutique family-law firm.
Mentorship without micromanagement is an important part of our approach. We will help you become an outstanding family-law attorney, while expecting you to bring established litigation skills, judgment, and professionalism to the position.
