Experienced Personal Injury Trial Attorney

Austin, Texas | Full-Time | In-Office | $240,000+ Anticipated Total Compensation

A small, established, fast-paced plaintiff personal injury trial firm in Southwest Austin is seeking an experienced litigation attorney to take primary responsibility for a docket of personal injury cases.

This position is designed for an experienced attorney who is comfortable independently handling litigation, making strategic case decisions, taking depositions, working with experts, negotiating significant claims, and trying cases to a jury.

Our practice consists primarily of motor vehicle collision cases, including a substantial number of commercial vehicle and trucking matters. The attorney will also occasionally handle premises liability, workplace injury/nonsubscriber, and other serious personal injury cases.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $120,000+ depending on experience

In addition to base salary, the position includes meaningful performance-based bonuses. Realistic anticipated total annual compensation is $240,000+, depending upon performance, case results, and experience.

The compensation structure is intended to reward an attorney who takes ownership of the docket, moves cases effectively, achieves strong results for clients, and contributes meaningfully to the success of the firm.

Docket & Responsibilities

The anticipated docket is approximately 30–65 active cases, depending upon the size and complexity of the matters being handled.

Approximately half of the attorney's docket is expected to be in active litigation at any given time.

The attorney will have substantial responsibility for his or her cases, including:

      Managing personal injury cases through litigation, settlement, or trial

      Developing case strategy and evaluating liability and damages

      Drafting and responding to written discovery

      Taking and defending fact and expert witness depositions

      Preparing and arguing motions

      Retaining, preparing, and working with expert witnesses

      Conducting mediations and settlement negotiations

      Preparing cases for jury trial

      Serving as first-chair trial counsel

      Maintaining regular communication with clients

      Supervising and coordinating with paralegals and support staff

      Working directly with the firm's owner on higher-value and more complex matters

A significant percentage of the firm's clients are Spanish-speaking only. The ability to communicate effectively in Spanish is strongly preferred, although exceptional candidates who do not speak Spanish will be considered.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

      7–15 years of litigation experience in plaintiff personal injury litigation, insurance defense, or a combination of the two

      Prior first-chair jury trial experience

      Significant deposition and litigation experience

      Strong knowledge of Texas civil procedure

      The ability to independently manage a substantial litigation docket

      Strong judgment, organization, and case-management skills

      Excellent written and oral advocacy skills

      Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas

Who We Are Looking For

This is not an entry-level position and is not intended for an attorney who needs to be trained in the fundamentals of litigation.

We are looking for an experienced lawyer who enjoys practicing law and wants meaningful responsibility without the bureaucracy and layers of management of a large firm.

The successful candidate should be capable of taking ownership of cases while working collaboratively with the firm's owner and experienced staff. The attorney will have significant autonomy and direct involvement in litigation strategy, case valuation, client representation, settlement decisions, and trials.

Location

This is a full-time, in-office position located in Southwest Austin, Texas.

This is not a remote or hybrid position.
