Compensation:
- Salary Range $52,000.00 - $81,600.00 based on experience and education
- Upon completion of your first 90 days, a performance review will be completed with a potential hourly increase up to $2.00, may be considered.
Schedule:
- 8 Hour Shifts/40 Hours a Week
- Monday – Friday
- 7:30am – 4:00pm
- On Call and Stand By required
- Overtime
- Nights, Weekends, and Holiday work as necessary

Job Description
Title – Laborer 1
- A Laborer 1 (Pump Controls Technician) in the Technical Advisory Department for the Jackson Township Municipal Utilities Authority is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of pumps, motors, and control systems within water treatment facilities, wastewater lift stations, and commercial water booster systems. This role requires a strong background in electrical controls, including VFDs and PLCs, to manage sewage lift stations and water pressure systems.

Position Responsibilities Include (It is important to note that the duties listed below are a brief description only and are not intended to cover the full range or scope of duties performed by Laborer 1 (Pump Controls Technician)):
- Troubleshooting Controls and Electrical Systems: Diagnosing and repairing pump controls, motor control systems, SCADA system equipment, and basic relay controls.
- Pump & Motor Repair: Maintaining, repairing, and installing centrifugal, submersible, sewage ejector, and vertical column pumps.
- Preventative Maintenance: Performing scheduled inspections to ensure optimal operation of pumping systems.
- Electrical Safety & Wiring: Working with 3-phase and single-phase electrical systems, transformers, and low-voltage switching devices, adhering to Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
- Flush Hydrants
- Respond to complaints regarding water leaks and pressure loss or no water and evaluate the situation.
- Dig ditches and holes
- Participation in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergency calls is required.
- Assist in snow plowing
- Timely and accurate completion of all required paperwork
- Must be punctual, dependable, and meet all work scheduling requirements
- Perform water safety in compliance with OSHA regulations
- Perform other related activities as assigned by supervisors or managers
- Required to obtain CDL license within 12 months of hire
Skills and Qualifications:
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- CDL preferred but not required, training will be provided
- Pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Ability to pass physical and testing requirements to obtain CDL
- 1-5 years of experience with plumbing, electrical, or industrial pump maintenance preferred.
- Ability to read electrical ladder diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Ability to work in both municipal shops and on-site at lift stations or plants and sometimes working alone out of a service vehicle.
- Ability to perform manual tasks either alone or as a member of a group
- Ability to receive feedback and work well in a team environment
- Ability to understand, remember, and follow oral and written directions
- Ability to work harmoniously with associates, supervisors, and to deal effectively with the public
- Ability to care for equipment, materials, and supplies used in maintenance work
- Ability to learn to use the tools and equipment needed to perform routine tasks
- Knowledge of basic tools is a plus
- Ability to follow safety precautions in the operation of assigned tools and equipment
- Basic computer skills are needed
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the Authority
Physical Requirements:
Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Repetitive standing, walking, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, reaching, and moving about on job site
Exposed to cold/heat/humidity, position often requires work to be performed outside, in all kinds of weather
