Job Position: Full Time Water Service Field Technician
Location: Position is based out of Sterling, MA. Employees meet at our Sterling facility each morning and travel to various job sites throughout Massachusetts and New England.

We are currently seeking a dependable and motivated Water Service Field Technician to join our underground utility and waterworks team. Because of the nature of our work, this position requires participation in a paid rotating on-call schedule (minimum 1 week on-call, Monday to Sunday), and candidates must be able to respond to emergency service calls, including nights and weekends.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Generally, perform all aspects of municipal and private water system work, including excavation.
- Perform evaluations and maintenance on fire hydrants, Valves and PIVs; complete related reports
- Perform leak detection surveys and pinpointing; Complete related reports
- Perform hydrant flushing programs and valve exercising programs; Complete related reports
- Installs, tests, and repairs water lines and sewer lines; disconnects service lines; install, repair, and remove fire hydrants; installs and repairs valves, performs wet taps and insertion valves on live water mains.
- Pipe locating and Map and diagram water locations; log jobs completed
- Check vehicles and equipment to ensure proper and safe operation; perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs; report mechanical problems to the supervisor
- General garage maintenance such as sweeping, cleaning, vehicle washing/maintenance & perform related and/or other duties as assigned Requirements:
- Valid, MA Class D driver’s license, including a ‘good’ driving record- Class B (or greater) CDL preferred
- High school diploma or GED
- OSHA-10 card or greater
- Hoisting License (1B) and Hydraulic License (2A) preferred or individual attainment within 3 months of hire required
- 1+ water industry experience/licenses a plus, training available for the right candidate
- 1+ years of excavation experience preferred
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol testing, and complete background and criminal check
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
- Sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time, lift up to 100 pounds, be able to reach, handle, and manipulate objects, stoop, squat, kneel, etc., as well as good eyesight and hearing required (naturally or with correction)
- Must be able to respond to emergency repair calls outside normal working hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays) in all weather conditions, participate in a rotating on-call schedule, and consistently work overtime (40+ hours per week).
Experience/Skills:
- Ability to follow appropriate company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to speak, read, and write English; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Good organizational and decision-making skills
- Ability to multitask, learn, and apply knowledge quickly
- Good general mechanical skills with the use of machine and handheld tools Benefits include:
