Description
Job Summary:The Kennel Technician provides compassionate care for animals by feeding, cleaning, exercising, and monitoring their health and behavior. This role supports veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other staff by maintaining a clean facility and ensuring the well-being of all animals in care.
Key Responsibilities
- Feed and provide fresh water to animals according to established schedules.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, runs, litter boxes, and animal living areas.
- Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior and report concerns to supervisors.
- Administer medications as instructed.
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations and treatments.
- Wash bedding, dishes, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication, and animal care activities.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and animal handling procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience working with animals is an asset but not always required.
- Ability to safely handle dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Dependable, compassionate, and detail-oriented.
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior and health is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working around animals of all sizes and temperaments.
- Ability to work in environments with noise, odors, and cleaning chemicals.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed.
