Growing together.OptumCare Nevada is seeking a Nevada IPA Network Medical Director to provide clinical leadership for the IPA network and partner with physicians, practices, and cross-functional market teams to improve quality, affordability, access, provider experience, and patient experience across the Nevada market. This physician leader will serve as a key medical leader for the Network team, working closely with senior physician leaders, operations, risk and quality, finance, patient experience, and network management to drive meaningful and measurable performance outcomes.
This role is highly relationship-driven and field-facing, requiring regular travel within the Nevada market to build and maintain collegial relationships with contracted providers and IPA practices. The Nevada IPA Network Medical Director will help develop and execute strategies that support value-based care performance, improve provider engagement, strengthen quality outcomes, reduce avoidable utilization, and advance the Quadruple Aim across the network.
Primary Responsibilities:
IPA Network Leadership and Performance
- Serve as the clinical leader for IPA network primary care physicians and help develop and drive strategy around IPA network performance
- Partner with Network Managers, senior physician leaders, operations, risk and quality, finance, and patient experience teams to support market goals and improve overall IPA office performance
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with contracted providers through regular field engagement, site visits, and provider meetings
- Represent the organization as a trusted clinical partner to IPA physicians and practices, helping align network strategy with value-based care goals
Quality, Risk Adjustment, and Patient Experience
- Work with Risk and Quality leaders and Network Managers to improve performance on quality measures, including HEDIS, across contracted IPA offices
- Develop network-wide programs to improve provider, clinic, and organizational performance in quality and risk, including program design and financial return-on-investment proposals when appropriate
- Partner with the Network team and Patient Experience leaders to support improvement in patient experience measures, including CAHPS/HOS and NPS
- Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to clinicians and practices to support continuous improvement
Affordability and Utilization Management
- Build and implement strategies to improve affordability across the IPA network, including opportunities related to referrals, emergency department utilization, admissions, and pharmacy use
- Use medical metrics to identify performance opportunities, develop strategies, and support action plans that improve clinical and financial outcomes
- Promote evidence-based medicine and managed care principles across the IPA network
Provider Education and Practice Support
- Develop and implement education programs for providers and practice staff, including coding and documentation requirements, workflows, and performance metrics
- Support provider understanding of value-based care expectations, quality performance, risk adjustment, patient experience, and affordability goals
- Serve as a clinical resource and coach for IPA physicians and practice teams, helping translate performance data into practical improvement opportunities
Specialty Network Collaboration
- Work with the contracted specialty network to support quality, access, and affordability
- Partner closely with network leadership to strengthen relationships with specialty providers and align specialty network performance with broader market goals

Required Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree
- Active, unrestricted Nevada medical license
- Current board certification
- At least five years of clinical practice experience after residency, with significant outpatient practice experience
- Solid understanding of evidence-based medicine and managed care principles
- Ability to travel within the Southern Nevada market the majority of the time, with limited travel to Northern Nevada
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage effectively with physicians, practice leaders, clinical teams, and business partners
Preferred Qualifications:
- Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine
- Experience in value-based care, Medicare Advantage, or global risk models
- Prior physician leadership experience with demonstrated ability to influence clinical performance and provider engagement
- Supervisory, mentoring, coaching, or clinical leadership experience
- Project management experience and ability to lead performance improvement initiatives across multiple practices
- Solid team-building skills and ability to work collaboratively across clinical, operational, network, finance, and quality teams
- Creative problem-solving skills and ability to translate metrics into practical action plans
- Excellent presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $248,500 to $373,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
