Description
- Obtain and document comprehensive patient histories, including chief complaint, medical history, medications, and allergies.
- Perform visual acuity testing, refractions, pupillary assessments, confrontation visual fields, and extraocular muscle evaluations.
- Measure intraocular pressure using approved tonometry methods.
- Perform preliminary ophthalmic examinations and accurately document findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Educate patients regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and postoperative instructions.
- Perform and assist with ophthalmic diagnostic testing, including but not limited to:
- OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), Visual Fields, Fundus Photography, Corneal Topography, IOL Master/Biometry, Pachymetry, A-Scan and B-Scan, Ultrasound (Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of diagnostic equipment.)
- Prepare patients for physician examinations and procedures.
- Assist physicians with in-office procedures and minor surgical treatments.
- Administer ophthalmic medications as directed by physicians.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR.
- Coordinate effectively with front office and surgical scheduling staff.
- Assist in preparing patients for cataract and ophthalmic surgical procedures.
- Review surgical consents and patient education materials.
- Coordinate preoperative testing and postoperative appointments as needed.
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.
- Follow OSHA and infection control guidelines.
- Maintain certification and stay current with ophthalmic best practices.
Requirements
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
- Minimum 1 years of ophthalmology experience.
- Strong understanding of ophthalmic terminology and disease processes.
- Experience with EMR systems.
- Excellent communication and patient service skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to assist patients safely when needed.
- Ability to operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
