- Staff Attorney (Temporary)
Description
Outten & Golden LLP is seeking a Staff Attorney (Temporary) who is admitted to practice in the State of California. This is a fully remote role, but successful candidates must be based in and work from one of the following states: California, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia. The person in this role will report to the Firm’s Director of Litigation Operations as part of a team of other temporary staff attorneys. The role is tied to a specific group of matters and will end after the conclusion of the primary assignment or eleven (11) months, whichever comes first.
The Firm enjoys a strong national reputation for representing employees, independent contractors, executives and whistleblowers in all areas of employment law—from representing senior executives in contract negotiations, to protecting individuals’ civil rights in the workplace, to combating worker exploitation and systemic discrimination in class action and impact litigation and putting hundreds of millions of dollars in the hands of wronged individuals with historic SEC and IRS whistleblower awards. We take pride in our decision to represent employees as advocates for workplace fairness. More recently, the Firm has branched out into new cutting-edge consumer digital-discrimination litigation involving major social media platforms.
We also place considerable focus on our own workplace, keeping our eye on employee morale and engagement as we grow and evolve. Our goal is to foster a workplace that embraces diversity in all of its complex and rich forms and incorporates the multi-layered factors that drive equity. We are committed to building relationships rooted in respect and trust to promote a sense of belonging for all of our employees.
Responsibilities: Staff Attorneys (Temporary) at O&G support the Firm’s nationwide plaintiff-side class action and complex litigation practice by handling matter-specific projects including:
- conducting targeted case law research on class certification, remedies, expert admissibility, notice, and defenses;
- preparing expert background summaries, including credentials, testimony history, publications, and known defense challenges;
- preparing research memoranda, case charts, and string citations for review by partners or associates;
- collecting and analyzing pleadings, discovery, deposition excerpts, and technical documents;
- tracking new decisions, rule changes, and briefing deadlines relevant to the claims and defenses;
- summarizing key authorities from California, the Ninth Circuit, and other jurisdictions on a range of issues (e.g., settlement approval requirements, recent court concerns affecting class settlements); tracking developments in cases involving valuation, restitution, and class-wide proof of harm; and monitoring public statements, policy updates, investor disclosures, and litigation filings; and undertaking other legal work as directed.
Qualifications: Successful candidates will have a combination of employment, educational, and life experience that demonstrates the qualities and skills below:
- Experience and Education: You have a minimum of 1 year of legal experience, ideally in a law firm supporting a litigation practice. You have strong analytical, writing, research, and organizational skills. Must have a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and be a member of the California bar (in good standing) as well as admitted in the state of location for remote work to be done (if different).
- Ownership, Initiative, and Teamwork: You take ownership of your projects and follow through on their completion. You proactively seek additional projects when you have bandwidth for more. You possess the ability to work well within a team but are also comfortable working independently.
- Confidentiality: You must adhere to Firm policies regarding the protection of confidential data and demonstrate sensitivity to (and good judgment in connection with) confidential attorney, personnel, and Firm matters.
- Mission Orientation: You are enthusiastic and passionate about our commitment to advocating for employee rights. You thrive when your work is connected to purpose.
Compensation: An attractive compensation package (tailored to experience), with a target compensation range of $44.00 to $50.00 per hour depending on experience. Outten & Golden offers our employees a robust benefits package including healthcare benefits.
