The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is now accepting applications for a Transportation Materials Technician 3 role within the Material Evaluation and Specification Unit (MESU) located at the Materials Testing Laboratory in Rocky Hill, CT.

Schedule: Full-Time (40 Hour), First Shift, Monday - Friday
Location: Materials Testing Laboratory in Rocky Hill, CT

THE ROLE
In this role you will perform inspection and testing of materials and structures used in the construction of transportation facilities.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Act as quality assurance inspector for precast and pre- stressed concrete structures.
Assisting higher level employees with maintaining inspection records, databases, and software platform(s) needed for these activities.
Determines whether precast and pre-stressed components conform with applicable specifications.
Liaison between MESU and District inspection staff regarding laboratory policies and procedures and/or problems with materials.
Examine approved shop drawings and other documentation needed for precast and pre-stressed concrete quality assurance inspection.
Examine concrete batch records and mixture documentation for conformance with approved mix design information.
Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Six (6) years of experience in the chemical and/or physical analysis of transportation construction or maintenance materials, including independent performance of tests such as extraction gradation, slump and air content for cement, and concrete cylinder tests.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training in natural sciences, construction technology, civil engineering or other related fields may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
